Wari-Wari!

I know you all are anxious about not seeing posts for the past few days! Well that's cuz I've been travelling, mainly going back to home sweet home! Finally landed back in the States! Enjoyed home cooked meal, coconut-milk noodle soup!

Trip was funny! I became the Standby-KING! I arrived home 18 hrs ahead of my scheduled arrival time. My day started out at 5 a.m. on the 16th. After 1 hour of torture, I arrived at a one story building, known as the airport! However, my flight won't be leaving until 3 p.m. and I am talking about Dominican time! So I go to the counter and bug them to let me check my bags in every 10 minutes and they finally give up and booked me for a standby on the earliest flight to San Juan! With my best-est luck, I got a seat for the earliest flight to San Juan. When I got there, I have to go bug more American Airline agents from the counter to put me on the standby for the earliest flight to Miami. Once again, my luck shone and I was on my way to Miami 9 hrs ahead of scheduled arrival! Finally, I hit a wall when I got to Miami. The agent say, he can't put me on standby for the next earliest flight to LAX cuz my scheduled flight was for the next day and they can't do that unless I pay like $150 or so EXTRA! Seems like my luck has run dry on me this time. To my surprise, the agent changed his mind and told me that he will make me an exception and he put me on the standby for the earliest flight to LAX! Try to beat that luck! It was thanks to those agents from AA! You guys rock!!! I didn't pay a dime extra for arriving 18 hrs earlier than scheduled time!

Well that is for now. I have lots of !@#^ to do and I will try to keep as up to date as I possibly can!

Last Day of Review

Here come, moment of truth! Final day of preparation for the FINAL exam! Trying to go over BIOCHEMISTRY & DPS(doctor patient society). Yes if you flunk DPS, you will still flunk the semester and people said you need common sense for that class. So ... I am worried cuz that is the only thing I don't possess with me! So must study for that :( ... Well so the countdown is 2 days left till I go back and 3 days till I land back on the US soil (Puerto Rico, doesn't count because I will just be in the terminal).

Plan when I get home includes my annual eyes exam, watching NBA on X-Mas Day! Anime! Maybe Movie in AMC theater! Eat Subway, PHO, and BURMESE FOOD(home cooked)!

REVIEW... REVIEW & MORE REVIEW

When will this review END? Endless reviews :S TODAY is just another more than typical day of a medical student. Nothing fun except enjoying the delicious tropical fruits. I will post more almost at the end of the day about it. My day is just getting started! Here I come, 3 more freaking days!

Padding myself in the back surviving the storm, the highest attrition rate @ 40%+! So surviving that definitely deserve a pad in the back! A or no A's, the most important thing is to beat the MPS! It doesn't matter how many A's you got, if you don't beat the MPS in one class, you won't move on!

Anatomy!

Today Anatomy is a bit excruciating, but got it done though. 1 day at a time! 4 more days to go till I can have my BEST-EST meal, the home cooked! I don't feel like posting today.

I bought a fruit yesterday, a tropical fruit! It is quite delicious, but I don't know what it is called. There are so many exotic things that you can't find in the states! I am loving them XD ... don't think about punani, it is no tropical fruit I tell you!

Histology!

Today histology review was alright. The embryology neurology development was a bit brutal. The musculoskeletal development was also brutal. Beside those, the 1st week, 2nd week, 3rd week are not too bad.

If you have time to read this please please please help me by clicking on the google ads from my page. I really really really appreciate your help!

Countdown: 4 more days! I want to go to Disney Land!

Physio!

Physiology review is fun. Things starting to make more sense as you review them. Yesterday Biochemistry was brutal. I think BC in general is just brutal and it can be very very cycling, but it is not rocket science I tell you. Maybe if the professors make the class or topic more interesting, it might help with our studying/reviewing. I heard that IMG's don't do too well on USMLE STEP1 biochemistry. That's sound very encouraging because that give me something to aim for; to break the trend that is ;)...

Count down is 6 days now! Can't wait to go back home. So far plan for X-Mas is LAS VEGAS! New Year, I don't know what I will do, maybe spend a night out camping in the mountain and see the rising New Year sun early in the morning from the top of the mountain. Maybe visit Universal Studio theme park again before X-Mas!

Exam Stress

Talking about STRESS, exams are one pain in the @$$! Preparing for the FINAL is no fun business, I tell you! Biochemistry being the topic of the day make it worse! Wait till tomorrow, Histology in STOCK! FUN FUN uh? Well, I have to get back to my study. See you all folks!

Me & My School

Got too excited about having my first blog and forgot to mention about myself. I am a first year M.D candidate at Ross University, School of Medicine. The school is located on a beautiful island called Dominica. It is in Caribbean. The campus is one hour drive from the airport and located right at the beach front! Weather is hot and humid like any other tropical countries or islands. One thing I like so far is variety of tropical fruit. As I grew up in a tropical country myself, having a taste of fresh tropical fruits is a blast. Mango, tangerine, orange, golden apple, pineapple, banana, passion fruit and many more. Well I invite you to come and try them out for yourself.

After the MINI!

Feeling down, but what the hell.. right? It is almost over anyway, just 1 more freaking week and 1 more freaking test! Come on, you can do it! ... Okay, that was LAME... Am I going insane? You be the doctor and tell me!

Can't wait to go home... missing the foods more than anything else! Well.. lets pick it up from where I left off. A friend of mine, who seems to be having some extra time, ended up reading my blog and suggested me that I should not sugarcoat and tell the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. So I am taking my friend's advice and going to unleash all the evilness and miseries that we, The Caribbean Students (or so you labeled I.M.G), have been going through.

Let me be frank, if YOU(the so called in-states) think you want to complain something, hold your tongues because you don't even have any slight idea of what WE been going through! 1st of all, everything that you are taking for granted will be stripped soon as you get here! Lets start from food, thinking to complain about how your STEAK was a bit overcooked, there is NO STEAK as good as that overcooked one! So just add your imagination and fill in the rest of food category. Then for those of you who don't like flicking the switch off when you leave your room, I have good news for you. Yeah, YOU, don't look around like you are innocent! The good news is that your electricity bill won't be going through the roof even if you don't flick the switch off, CUZ sometimes the island wonder will automatically turn it off for you! And when the wonder turns your switch off, you can't turn it back on as you wish. You know it has its own little mind.

I will stop here for today and let those 2 facts sink into your head before I continue any further! Otherwise, it is no fun, because y'all will just read and not come back and visit my page! I will keep you hooked ;) mwahahahaha! Maybe next time, I will throw in something fun that you can do on the island that you can't possibly do back in the states! So stay tuned folks!

Daily Routine

Well, my day usually starts at 6:45 A.M. ... That's when I get up and pull my @$$ out of bed. Hit the shower then eat my breakfast and start walking to the class. Spend there in the classroom called ANNEX for gruesome 4 hours till lunch time! Then go back for lunch and break for 1 hour. After lunch you get sleepy, but still got work to do so have to hit the book to review for daily till dinner time. YAY! finally dinner time comes! Microwave the left over food and enjoy the lukewarm dinner and enjoy the break for an hour, not really, but still think it is 1 hour to make myself feel better! Then grab my bags and go to school for group study under the well-lit classroom of our school! The best of all is the classroom has little or NO MOSQUITOES at all!!! What a blast uh? Cuz at home, you will have to swat those little annoying creatures that buzz you all the time. Well, from there on until about midnight or so study/surfing net with group then journey back home to sleep! That's whole day folks! Pretty boring don't you think?

Talking about well-lit... there are power outage at home time to time! Well, what do you expect out of third world country, or so called developing country? There is always a trade-off between the comfort and nature, right? There are more complaints to come... so please wait patiently. I can't give you all at once because "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!" XD mwahahahaha!

I will try to blog daily to keep all of my followers, if I have any, updated!

2 Days b4 the MINI!

I can't believe that I am blogging 2 days before a mini! Studying so far is great, I have a few wonderful pictures of where I live and the island in general. However, bear with the photo quality as I took them with my phone because I don't have a decent camera (school robbed too much from me and I am broke now). I promise I will post them up during my winter break!

Counting down 10 days left!

Life in Caribbean Medical School, Dominica

I arrived at Dominica on August of 2009. Mainly for schooling and I thought it will be boring and painful. I was half right at that, the painful part. It is intense, but I enjoy what I am learning and I feel like I am finally really LEARNING! Weather is unmatched and tropical fruits are just delicious, you have to come here and try them for yourself. Living alone and doing things on your own flexible schedule is fun. Don't get me wrong, I still miss home and home-cooked foods! You can chill under the sun, but not too much to flunk yourself out of school. Just find the right balance and you will find that studying in Caribbean can be too much fun!

It's been over 3 months and 1st semester is almost over! FINALLY! Here I come U.S., more energized and more upbeat than before! I didn't know that learning can be this much fun! I think it helps when you start having some focus or clear cut goal of what you want to do with your life or in your life! For me, it certainly helped. I am glad that I come to Ross University to study! Although I am enjoying the study, I want to finish it as fast as possible so I can go out into the world and apply what I have learned sooner and enjoy life even more! I am looking forward to the day of my graduation from RU! Class of 2013, WE ROCK!!! Since mini and final are near, best of luck to all my classmates and hope to see y'all next semester!
